Those eyes! They show such hardship and determination, and a will to survive with a smudge of the dirt of a survivor. It is the look of empowerment that this image conveys that really grabs the viewer. I love this picture because of the strength of the symbolism. The shadows and lighting are captured expertly, and compel me to just focus in on those deep blue all-knowing eyes that are too young to know such pain.
I constantly enjoy looking at this picture. It looks as if I am looking at this swimmer from a window, yet he is in the ocean. The vast landscape around him is perfectly lighted in order to give an eerie effect. This makes me question why he is out there, how long and far is he from land, and where is he going?
